Do's and Don'ts for Septic Systems
Do's
Know the location of your control panel and check periodically for alarm conditions.Repair any leaks, running toilets, and dripping faucets promptly.Keep a record of pumping, inspections, and maintenance.Learn the location of your septic system and avoid constructing patios, decks, and paved surfaces over your system. Divert roof drains and surface water from your septic system. Keep sump pump water and house footing drains away from the septic system.Only plant shallow rooted plants or grass around your septic system to avoid root growth into the tanks.Having your system serviced regularly by one of our technicians will help the longevity of parts and other system components.
Dont's
Do not dispose of grease, oil, or fats down the drain.Do not use any additional septic additives as it may kill off good bacteria in your treatment plant.Do not flush chemicals, medications, or other hazardous substances.Do not use excessive amounts of household cleaners or bleach.Do not flush paints, thinner, chemicals, grease, solvents, and sanitizer. These kill the good bacteria in your plant. Do not flush Baby wipes, flushable wipes, plastic, sanitary napkins, scouring pads, condoms, mop strings, disposable diapers, towels, lint, rags, etc. These items will collect in your treatment plant and require more frequent pumping.
